AFRICA: Somalia bans trucks and tankers from entering Mogadishu

Somalia authorities have banned trucks and tankers from entering the capital, Mogadishu, during the day, in a move meant to curb deadly attacks carried out using such vehicles. The ban comes following two attacks that jointly left at least 377 people dead and hundreds others injured. Earlier this week, top security officials were fired following those attacks carried out on 14 and 28 October. The first attack was labelled the biggest in the Horn of African country’s history, and was condemned by world leaders. Somalia-based jihadist group al-Shabaab denied being behind that attack, but claimed responsibility for the second. The militants, who have links to al-Qaeda, say they targeted the hotel on Saturday because it was frequented by security officials and politicians. The al-Shabab gunmen were dressed as members of the security forces – apparently helping them enter the hotel unchallenged – but Information Minister Abdirahman Omar Osman has disputed allegations they had official...

COOU students miss lecture due to heavy downpour

Rainfall has been the major factor for students late coming to class.  The students of mass communication COOU who were known for coming early to school before every other student has started  coming late to school.   The down pour this morning made lots of students come late and some did not even come at all.The rain started early this morning and rained till 10:00am and the students who had lecture for 8:00am and 9:00am came late for their lectures   Also with the rainfall, the students find it difficult to see bus which will take them to school, it is very painful how a student that has lecture will leave his or her house in an hour or thirty minutes early only to spend close to two hours at the bus stop waiting for bus. At times when the students come late to lecture during a raining day owing to their slogishness or their personal reason they will put it on the rain as the reason fro their coming late.
