Scores feared dead as suicide bomber hits mosque in Adamawa

Scores of people are feared dead following a bomb blast at a mosque in Dazala area of Mubi town in Adamawa on Tuesday. According to eyewitnesses, suspected suicide bomber carried out the attack around 5 a.m., during the Muslim early morning prayers. “I counted 27 dead and 49 injured people as they are being evacuated to the hospital,” said one Mubi resident, who simply identified himself as Danladi. The Chairman of Mubi North, Alhaji Musa Bello, who spoke to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) said he would give details of the incidence later. “There are many casualties including the dead but I cannot give you the exact figure now as we are trying to ascertain the damage”. Obiano Mourns Ekwueme

The Governor of Anambra State, Chief Willie Maduaburochukwu Obiano has described the demise of the former Vice President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Dr Alex Ifeanyichukwu Ekwueme as a huge loss to Nigeria. Reacting to the news of the death from his Aguleri country home where he had gone to mark his victory in the last Saturday’s election with his family, Governor Obiano said that he was yet to come to terms with the reality of Dr Ekwueme’s death as it was hard to contemplate the void that his passage has created. “A great iroko has fallen. Nigeria has lost a statesman. Ndigbo have lost an illustrious son. Anambra has lost a father. But I have lost both a father and a friend. I have lost a mentor. Any cultists caught with or without weapon will be sentenced to death – Fayose

The governor of Ekiti state, Chief Ayodele Fayose has on Monday signed into law, bill prohibiting secret cults and terrorism, noting that anyone caught sponsoring or practicing cultism would be sentenced to death as a punishment for violating the law. “From now, any person who is a member of a secret cult, whether or not the person is in possession or in control of any offensive weapon but commits the offence, is liable to conviction to death. “Any person who gives financial or material support or assistance to a secret cult or in any manner sponsor the activities of a secret cult, commits an offence under this law and is liable or conviction to imprisonment for life” he said. Fayose made the call while appending his signature to the bill at the government house Ado-Ekiti. According to him, the signing was a confirmation of the unwavering commitment of the state government to combating terrorism in the state.
