Plateau attack: Tears, anguish as 9 victims are buried in mass grave

Tears of anguish cascaded down the cheeks of people in Diyan village, in Rim District of Riyom Local Government Area of Plateau State when victims of a midnight attack were given mass burial. Survivors and relations watched painfully as corpses of their loved ones were lowered laid into a mass grave, yesterday. The deceased were ambushed and shot dead by suspected Fulani herdsmen while returning from Makera market on Tuesday night. Daily Sun visited the scene and gathered that a Golf Volkswagen car was conveying 16 passengers who are related from the Makera market and thereafter, the vehicle was attacked and nine people were killed, while five others were inflicted with gunshots injuries. Six of the deceased persons were buried in one grave at Gwa-Rim and two others were buried at Wereng Rim as each of the neighbouring villages insisted on burying  their corpses. Italy arrests Libyan, Egyptian over death of 26 Nigerian women

Two men, one of them an Egyptian and the other a Libyan,have been arrested and charged in Italy as investigators look into the deaths of 26 Nigerian women and girls, who are suspected to have been murdered while attempting to cross the Mediterranean. Dora Omoruyi, one of the survivors who does not want to return to Nigeria The bodies of the women were brought to the southern Italian port of Salerno by the Spanish ship Cantabria on Sunday, and prosecutors opened an investigation over suspicions that the women, some as young as 14, may have been abused and killed. The bodies were recovered by Cantabria, which works as part of the EU’s Sophia anti-trafficking operation, from two separate shipwrecks – 23 from one and three from the other. Fifty-three people are believed to be missing. The men arrested have been named as Al Mabrouc Wisam Harar, from Libya, and Egyptian Mohamed Ali Al Bouzid. SARS kill seven robbers, kidnappers in Imo, C’River

The Imo and Cross River states commands of the Special Anti -Robbery Squad on Wednesday killed seven suspected armed robbers and kidnappers . While two robbers were killed by the Imo SARS, five alleged kidnappers were killed by their counterparts in Cross River . PUNCH Metro learnt that the armed robbers met their Waterloo while exchanging gunfire with the Imo SARS operatives during a robbery. The incident, our correspondent gathered , occurred around 2am in Ezi-Ogbaku , in the Mbaitoli Local Government Area of the state. A police source said the SARS commander, Victor Godfrey , mobilised his men to the scene of the crime in the wee hours of the night.
