Traditional Ruler Of Awka Obi Gibson Nwosu Calls For Unity As Community Celebrates Otite Festival

Awka the Capital of Anambra State went agog at the weekend as its traditional ruler Obi Gibson Nwosu performed the annual Otite festival of the community.
The event took place at the Awka Temporary Stadium.
The Awka stadium saw the gathering of illustrious sons and daughters of Awka town, for this year "Otite festival, which is the new yam festival, of the community.
Speaking during the ceremony , Obi Nwosu emphasized that even though Awka was known for blacksmithing, farming is also a well known occupation.
He prayed that God will continue to bless Awka people and her land.
In a speech, the President General of Awka Development Union Nigeria, Chief Tony Okechukwu, noted that the "Otite" festival was organized to take stock of the planting season and for the next season.
He expressed satisfaction with youth’s participation in the festival, urging Awka people to be united and strong in celebrating the Awka heritage.
In their separate addresses, Ozo Nehemiah Okey-obuorah and Ozo Okoli said the festival is very significant to Awka people praying that peace will continue to reign in Awka community.
Masquerade displays and eating of the new yam by those present, formed the high point of the event.
