Ohaneze Ndigbo Urges Buhari To Address Call For Marginalization
The President General, Ohaneze Ndigbo, Chief John Nnia-Nwodo has called on President Muhamadu Buhari to convey a nation-wide conference to address the rising calls for restructuring in the country.
Chief Nwodo made the call as a Guest speaker at the Sixth Zik Lecture of the Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka.
The Ohaneze Ndigbo boss who delivered the paper “the Political Economy of Restructuring in Nigeria Problems and Prospects” stated that with the consensus by political and religious leaders across the country, the Federal government must make restructuring a priority in its programme.
He stated that with grim economic and structural outlook of the country, it has become imperative that Nigerian rethink it's growth model that will help the country to survive, suggesting that the country must change its policies of sharing of government revenue.
Governor Nyesom Wike, who was the Chairman on the occasion, called for an equitable and participatory, political and economic system where every citizen will justly benefit from the proceeds of democracy.
Governor Wike who was vocal on the recent happenings in Nigeria, stated that the rule of law must take its preeminence against the current situation where what he called autocracy is the order of the day.
The founder and benefactor of the Zik Lecture Series, Sir Ben Ndi-Obi who stated that the reason for the Zik lecture services was to immortalize late Zik of Africa who he said was his mentor as well as to advance human capital development through research and knowledge.
On their parts, a former Governor of Anambra state , Dr Chukwuemeka Ezife and Chief Emmanuel Iwuanyanwu noted that there is need for restructuring and expressed their passion for late Nnamdi Azikiwe.
The vice Chancellor of the University, Professor Joseph Ahaneku and Dean Faculty of social sciences Professor Stella Okunna thanked Chief Nwodo and others for making the Zik Lecture series a success .
Others who spoke at the event include the Chairman State Traditional Rulers Council and Obi of Onitsha Igwe Alfred Achebe, the traditional ruler of Awka Obi Gigson Nwosu, the wife of late Azikiwe, Professor Mrs Uche Azikiwe, Alhaji Tanko Yakassai among others. Presentation of plaque to some dignitaries at the event formed the highpoints.
