A young man simply identified as Imadu, said to be a notorious cultist was brutally killed on Christmas Day in Utagbe-Ogbe community, Kwale Town, Delta State. The deceased was an alleged hitman for Eiye Cult Group before he decamped to Baggar Cult Group. According to Austyne Emu, President/Commander, Anticult Volunteer Corps (AVC), Delta State, Imadu was killed by member of his former cult group. Femi Adesina's impostor bags 8 years imprisonment

A fraudster, Christian Efe Oyovweyho, has been convicted and sentenced to 8 years imprisonment for impersonating Femi Adesina, special adviser to the president on media and publicity. He attempted to defraud a Bayero University professor of N300, 000 for a nonexistent appointment in the presidency by impersonating Femi Adesina, the EFCC said on their Facebook. Oyovweyho who was prosecuted by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) on a 2-count charge that borders on conspiracy and attempt to obtain, in contravention of sections 8(a) and (b) of the Advance Fee Fraud and Other Fraud Related Offences Act, 2006 was sentenced by Justice Z.B. Abubakar of the Federal High Court Kano. The vice-chancellor of Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka, Anambra State, Prof. Joseph Ahaneku, on Thursday said over 40 percent of the staff of the university watch pornography at work. The VC who was able to monitor the development in offices on campus from his own network, said he took a drastic decision to curb it by censoring Internet services in the university from his office. Ahaneku said: “This is one reason we shut down YouTube from the university’s resource centre. “People should be made to be conscientious as well as do what they have been assigned to do and eschew indolence. “There have been a lot of abuses on facilities that, ordinarily, should aid staff in their jobs and as a result plans are underway to remove the televisions in central offices.” Ahaneku added, “Spending government time without doing what one is paid for is an act of corruption.”

Buratai charges soldiers to imbibe reading, writing cultures

Chief Of Army Staff (COAS), Lt.-Gen. Tukur Buratai, has charged officers and soldiers of the Nigerian Army to imbibe the culture of reading and writing for the benefit of the service and the society. Gen. Buratai gave the charge at a book launch “Moment of Thought”, written by the commander 7, Guards Battalion, Lieutenant-Colonel Abubakar Sadiq Bugaje, in Abuja. Buratai, while noting that the Nigerian army has over the years made policies aimed at enhancing service personnel in creativity and innovation, said the result gotten so far has been very encouraging. Ahmadu Bello University graduate bags NNPC scholarship

Saturday, November 25 saw Ahmadu Bello University at its 40th convocation ceremony graduate 8,260 students with 50 of them coming out with first class degree. The Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) offered automatic scholarship to the over all best student, Mr. Al-Amin Bashir-Bugaje, 23, who graduated from the Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering with a CGPA of 4.93, to study in any part of the world up to his PhD level.

Beautiful final year student of IMSU slumps and dies after her project defence

The Imo state University was recently thrown into mourning after the school lost one of its brilliant students to the cold hands of death. The deceased simply identified as Ogamba Angel Chiamaka was final year Chemistry student before her death. Late Ogamba, known for her great sense of humour, reportedly slumped and died on Friday, November 24th, just after her project defence Friends, classmates and family members have now taken to social media to pay tribute to her.

Bomb explodes in mosque, kills 270 worshippers in Egypt

Man allegedly stabs attendant for stopping him from smoking in filling station

An unemployed man, Bala Lawal, who allegedly stabbed an attendant for stopping him from smoking in a petrol station, on Friday appeared before an Ikeja Magistrates’ Court. Twenty-three-year -old Lawal, who resides at Lawal Street, Mangoro, Agege, Lagos, is standing trial for assault. The prosecutor, Sgt. Mike Unah, told the court that the accused stabbed Mr Godwin Okonta on Nov. 8 at Aguda, Ogba in Lagos, after smoking marijuana. Unah said that Okonta told Lawal to move away from the filling station while he was smoking, and that the accused later came back and stabbed him on the head with a knife. Unah said that witnesses consequently apprehended the accused. He noted that the offence contravened Section 173 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015. The accused, however, pleaded not guilty. The Magistrate, Mrs A.O. Gbajumo, granted him bail in the sum of N200, 000 with two sureties in like sum. Gbajumo adjourned the case until Dec. 4 for mention.

FRSC warns commercial drivers against night journeys during ember months

The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) on Friday warned drivers, especially commercial drivers, against night journeys due to its grievous consequences, if anything goes wrong. The FRSC Commander for Ozalla Unit Command in Enugu State, Mr Austin Ekele, gave the advice while speaking with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Enugu. Ekele was speaking on the sidelines of the “Ember months’ rush,’’ during which most commercial bus drivers used to exploit, to make more money. He noted that when a vehicle develops a fault or an accident occurs, it would be difficult to get immediate help to rescue the situation, unlike the quick response that could be available during the day time.
